Ruaha National Park is Tanzania’s largest national park, a vast and untamed wilderness offering an authentic safari experience. Known for its high concentration of elephants, lions, and rare wild dogs, Ruaha is also a lesser-known haven for primate enthusiasts. While gorillas are more commonly associated with Central Africa, Ruaha’s dense woodlands and riverine forests provide a unique opportunity to witness other primates in their natural habitat.
Although Ruaha is not traditionally known for gorillas, conservation projects and ongoing research in Tanzania have opened up rare opportunities to explore primate-rich regions within and around the park. Special expeditions may allow visitors to track and observe gorillas, primarily in protected areas and nearby mountain forests where these gentle giants have been sighted. This unique experience provides an intimate glimpse into the lives of one of the world’s most fascinating primates.
Note: Gorilla trekking in Tanzania is a special expedition and may require permits or customized tours with expert guides.
